FAQ
1. Q: What is the difference between this ZigBee version and a WiFi version of the sensor?
A: The ZigBee version requires a ZigBee hub and provides more stable, low-power and mesh-network communication. It does not connect directly to a WiFi router. The WiFi version connects directly to your home network without a hub but consumes more power and does not support ZigBee mesh networking.
2. Q: Does this sensor detect human presence even when the person is completely still?
A: Yes. The mmWave radar detects micro-motions such as breathing and slight body movement, allowing it to detect presence even when a person is stationary — unlike PIR sensors that require visible motion.
3. Q: What is the difference between 5.8 GHz and 24 GHz mmWave sensors?
A: 5.8 GHz offers longer detection distance and stronger penetration through obstacles, making it suitable for larger or open spaces. 24 GHz provides higher precision and better micro-motion detection for smaller rooms, with fewer false triggers. Each frequency is optimized for different indoor scenarios.
4. Q: Does this sensor require a hub or gateway to operate?
A: Yes. As a ZigBee device, it must connect to a ZigBee hub (such as a Tuya ZigBee gateway). Without the hub, it cannot send detection events to your smart-home system or app.
5. Q: Can I use multiple sensors in the same home or system?
A: Yes. You can install multiple ZigBee mmWave sensors in different rooms. Each sensor appears as a separate device in the app and can be named and automated individually.
6. Q: Will pets, fans, or moving curtains trigger false detections?
A: It is possible. Since mmWave radar senses micro-movement, pets, airflow, or objects moving close to the sensor can create false triggers. Adjusting sensitivity, detection range, and hold time can reduce these occurrences.
7. Q: Does the sensor work in darkness or low-light conditions?
A: Yes. mmWave radar does not rely on visible light. It detects presence using electromagnetic waves, so performance is not affected by low light or darkness.
8. Q: What is the typical detection range and mounting height?
A: Typical detection distance is around 6–9 meters depending on room layout and sensitivity settings. Ceiling installation at approximately 2.7–3.5 meters height provides the best coverage and accuracy.
9. Q: Will the sensor continue working if WiFi or Internet goes offline?
A: Yes. As long as the local ZigBee hub is powered, the sensor continues detecting presence. However, cloud-based notifications or remote access may not work until the Internet connection is restored.
10. Q: Is installation difficult, and does it require wiring?
A: No. Installation is simple. The sensor usually mounts with screws or adhesive and pairs wirelessly with the ZigBee hub. No wiring is required, and all configuration (delay time, sensitivity, presence duration) is done through the app.
